Torn Hip Laburm: the dreaded words that rocked my world. How can that be?
I am a very physically fit person who watches what she eats and regularly exercises. I'm not a hard core iron man or marathon type, but I consider myself athletic. What I am saying: sports has been part of my DNA since early childhood. I may be female but I was all tomboy growing up. I had to be as the only girl in a world full of boys!
And I really have not had a serious injury until the summer of 2009 when I shattered my right knee cap running. As a friend so elaborately put it: "your knee didn't win against the pavement." True words, but still devastating. I spent the next 8 weeks in a sports immobalizer brace while my knee cap healed (thanks to a wonderful doctor I managed to avoid surgery). My next 7 months were spent battling back through physical therapy.
I was just feeling like my old physical self when in October 2010, I walked down a flight of steps with luggage. At the bottom, I felt a strong stab of pain in my groin. Immediately I thought wonderful I pulled a groin muscle. A little groin pull--that doesn't stop me from running! However, after another month, I started to notice that the pain wasn't going away and in fact was worse. I now had pain in my groin and outer tush. A sickening feeling started to sink in. That's when the decision was made to go to see the doctor and when I first heard of a hip labrum, who knew such a thing existed.
